The Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners is entertaining the idea of by-passing approval from local municipalities to improve land it owns or acquires. The proposal is covered under the county charter but this would be a change in the county ordinance. The federal and state government already have this power as does the Pinellas County School Board. The benefits to the taxpayer are that it would be less money the county has to spend for time and permits. On the flip side the county could change what a local municipality had planned for a neighborhood. Here is a link to the first reading which will happen on September 27th. clearwatercoalition.org/CurrentItemsandIssues.aspx
