ACCREDITATION TEAM INVITES PUBLIC COMMENTS REGARDING CLEARWATER POLICE DEPARTMENTThe Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA) will arrive in Clearwater on March 26th to examine all aspects of the Clearwater Police Department's (CPD) Policies and Procedures, management, operations and support services. To comply with the rigorous accreditation standards, the department must show that it has maintained compliance with over 250 standards of professionalism to continue maintain the accredited status that was first earned in May 1998. The public is invited to offer written comments about CPD's ability to meet the standards of accreditation. Please write to: The Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation P.O. Box 1489 Tallahassee, Florida 32302 A copy of the standards is available at: www.flaccreditation.orgThe assessment team is composed of police practitioners from other law enforcement agencies. The assessors will review written materials, interview department employees and visit offices and other places where compliance with the standards can be observed. Once the Commission’s assessors complete their review of the agency, they report back to the full Commission, which will then decide if CPD will receive accredited status. Accreditation is for three years. Verification by the team that CPD meets the Commission’s standards is part of a voluntary process to gain or maintain accreditation--a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence.
