The Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners has lifted a moratorium on digital billboards in the unincorporated areas of Pinellas County. Clear Channel Outdoor and CBS Outdoor agreed to remove many of their old fashioned billboards in exchange for a few digital billboards. Do these kinds of billboards distract drivers? Do you like looking at these kinds of billboards while you are driving? The billboard firms will now work to get approval of this new technology in St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Largo, and other Pinellas County cities. Should this be permitted? What about stores, churches, and restaurants that have this kind of signage? Is this the wave of the future? Scenic Pinellas scenicpinellas.org/ is one organization that is working to keep this kind of media in check. You can see images of how Clearwater looked in the not too distant past compared with now. Better now or better then?
